D-I-Y: Charcoal toothpaste recipe
Making your own toothpaste is an easy way to cut back on your everyday plastic usage.
An added bonus: using activated charcoal toothpaste not only whitens your teeth naturally, but it makes teeth even cleaner - because it’s draws out grime and dirt. The coconut oil also has antibacterial properties that help reduce plaque and stains. It’s a win-win-win! No plastic, whiter and healthier teeth.
INSIDER TIPS:
1. I’ve been using this recipe for a while, and sometimes reduce the amount of coconut oil (and add a bit more water) because coconut oil can block your drain.
2. It can get messy. Spit it out into the garden, or a container to go in garden or compost, if you don’t want black splats on your sink.
3. Mix it up. I used this recipe non-stop for a couple of months and my mouth went...weird. It might just be me, but I alternate using charcoal toothpaste and regular toothpaste. It’s still unbelievable how much plastic toothpaste tubes I’ve cut back on!
